Convert your Router into an OpenVPN + Stunnel Router
A collection of cobbled-together articles I found on the internet that allowed me to watch YouTube on TV via ChromeCast (I know this sounds like a contrived example to some parts of the world).
So I live in a place where the Internet is believed to require a little more tender loving curation, and honestly, I’m perfectly fine with it. I see many benefits of this and it provides the learning opportunity and tiny rewards for curious people willing to explore the possibility of seeing beyond curated content. I love it — some-times-sort-of-ish.
Backstory — I already have a working OpenVPN with Stunnel client and server setup already (you can also visit my earlier articles on how I set mine up) which served most of my needs already and I’m pretty happy. But there are instances where it’s impossible to setup some form of OpenVPN + Stunnel client, such as a ChromeCast or an iOS device (please share me a link if you ever find a working stunnel client or know of how to set this up).
Quick Overview
Before diving further, I just wanted to explain a little on what I intend to do.
The idea is to have a “Default Gateway” on the network that isn’t the router. Essentially when other devices connect to the router, the router will broadcast to inform them that…
